Job Purpose:

Maintains communications systems by operating and maintaining switching site.

Duties:
* Plans switching system operation and maintenance by studying technical specifications; ordering and gathering equipment, supplies, materials, and tools.

* Maintains service by performing daily, weekly, and monthly routines, including switches, frame relay and transmission equipment, power supply, temperature control system, fire suppression system, security system, and emergency generators; circuits, connections, and miscellaneous equipment; following industry standards; coordinating with contractors.

* Verifies service by testing circuits, equipment, alarms, and fire-suppressing systems; identifying and correcting problems.

* Documents service by recording inspections and maintenance performed.

* Maintains site by completing operational and preventive maintenance requirements; troubleshooting and repairing problems; testing back-up; updating documentation.

* Maintains safe work environment by following codes, standards, and legal regulations.

* Keeps supplies ready by inventorying stock; placing orders; verifying receipt.

* Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading technical publications.

* Enhances department and organization reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.
