Job Description UPMC McKeesport is seeking a Professional Staff
Nurse to join the 3M Med Surg Unit in a limited casual l capacity.
This flexible opportunity is ideal for an experienced nurse looking
to work day or night shifts with no holiday requirements .
Candidates must be able to commit to 30 shifts per year and have at
least one year of nursing experience . Role Overview The
Professional Staff Nurse is a Registered Nurse and an essential
member of the care delivery team. This role sets the standard for
high?quality nursing care and carries responsibility, authority,
and accountability for patient care delivery. Using independent
judgment, strong communication, and collaboration with the
interdisciplinary team, the Professional Staff Nurse provides and
coordinates care for patients and their families. This role
embodies leadership, partnership, and clinical excellence while
fostering strong relationships with physicians, colleagues,
patients, and families to support optimal outcomes across the
continuum of care. Responsibilities Apply the nursing process
within the Relationship-Based Care model to promote a healing
environment. Develop daily patient goals and individualized plans
of care that reflect holistic needs and patient partnership.
Demonstrate critical thinking in identifying clinical, social,
psychological, safety, and spiritual needs throughout each care
episode. Communicate effectively, translating patient conditions to
other care providers and advocating for appropriate changes in care
or unit practices. Ensure comprehensive and accurate patient
documentation to support seamless communication among caregivers.
Integrate organizational and professional standards to enhance
patient safety, quality, and satisfaction. Build compassionate,
healing relationships with patients, families, and colleagues.
Participate actively in unit?based quality improvement initiatives
and identify opportunities for enhancement. Take personal ownership
in improving patient satisfaction and service quality. Use research
and evidence?based practice to support clinical improvements and
influence patient care plans. Maintain productive working
relationships by demonstrating accountability, enthusiasm, and
commitment to patients and colleagues. Recognize and respect
cultural differences, promoting healthy team relationships.
Maintain balance between work and personal life, modeling safe work
hours and healthy lifestyle habits. Communicate workplace safety
concerns to peers and leadership. Apply adult learning principles
(and pediatric teaching principles when applicable) in educating
patients, families, students, and new staff. Provide thorough
patient and family teaching to support care transitions and
discharge readiness. Support the growth of students, new staff, and
colleagues; may serve as a preceptor. Foster an environment of open
dialogue, inquiry, and continuous improvement by seeking and
applying feedback. Demonstrate accountability for ongoing
professional development to enhance practice and patient care
quality. Participate in shared governance, unit goal?setting, and
change initiatives to improve the practice environment. Serve as an
engaged and collaborative member of the care team, offering
assistance and partnership as needed. Contribute to work that
advances patient care and strengthens the professional practice
environment. Adapt to change with flexibility and a positive
approach. Must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills
necessary to provide care and/or interact appropriately to the ages
of the patients served by his/her assigned unit as specified below.
Must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and
development over the life span and possess the ability to assess
data reflective of the patients status and interpret the
appropriate information needed to identify each patients
requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs and to provide
the care needs as described in the department policy and
procedures. Minimum 1 year experience for the limited casual
status. BSN preferred. Ability to establish and maintain positive,
caring relationships with executives, managers, physicians,
non-physician providers, ancillary and support staff, other
departments, and patients/families. Ability to work productively
and effectively within a complex environment, handle
multiple/changing priorities and specialized equipment. Good
clinical judgment with critical thinking, analytical and problem
solving abilities required as related to various aspects of patient
care. Critical thinking skills necessary to exercise and to lead
others in application of the nursing process. Mobility and visual
manual dexterity. Physical stamina for frequent walking, standing,
lifting and positioning of patients. Licensure, Certifications, and
Clearances: UPMC approved national certification preferred. Current
licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse in practicing state.
CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic
and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire Basic
Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
