Full-time Physician Assistant or Emergency Medicine Nurse
Practitioner to support the Emergency Department at UPMC St
Margaret. /n /n Hours: Four 10-hour shifts /n Location: UPMC St.

Advanced Practice Provider (APP) is a Physician Assistant or
Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner and a member of the care
delivery team. The APP is responsible for providing patient care
services in the Emergency Department. This includes evaluation and
management of emergent patients and performing procedures as
needed. The APP is expected to follow established standards and
practices when performing these duties. The successful candidate
will be placed according to years and months of experience for
employment purposes. /n /n Responsibilities: /n /n - Meets
expectation of facilitating a face-to-face contact between patients
and a physician, and a review of every patient chart by a physician
/n - Patients per hour are at least 90% of the average benchmark
based on site volume /n - Complies with requirements of appropriate
regulatory agencies (i.e. OSHA, CLIA, PA Department of Health) /n -
Complete patient charts and prepare discharge instructions. Ensure
all charting is thorough and complete for each patient. Ninety five
percent of all charts must be completed before the end of shift.
Any remaining charts are completed within 3 days of date of
service. /n - Performs when necessary, routine procedures such as
splinting, reductions, laceration repair, I&Ds etc. /n -
Perform an appropriate history and physical examination based on
the patient's presenting complaint. Document findings in the
medical record. /n - Work with other APPs to ensure all shifts are
covered in Emergency Department on a 24/7 basis. /n - Assess
patient's condition quickly and concisely and determine the best
course of treatment. This can include ordering appropriate
laboratory or imaging studies, discussing patient with the
Emergency Physician and/or referring patient to consultants. /n /n
- Demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care
and/or interact appropriately with the patients served as specified
below /n - Demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and
development over the life span /n - Possess the ability to assess
data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the
appropriate information needed to identify each patient's
requirements relative to their age-specific needs /n - Provide the
care needs as described in the department policy and procedures /n
/n /n Special Skills and Abilities Required /n /n - Ability to
establish and maintain positive, caring relationships with
executives, managers, physicians, non-physician providers,
ancillary and support staff, other departments, and
patients/families /n - Ability to work productively and effectively
within a complex environment /n - Handle multiple/changing
priorities and specialized equipment /n - Critical thinking,
analytical and problem-solving abilities required as related to
various aspects of patient care /n - Good clinical judgment /n -
Critical thinking skills necessary to exercise and lead others in
application of acceptable standards of practice /n - Mobility and
visual manual dexterity /n - Physical stamina for frequent walking,
standing, lifting, and positioning of patients /n /n This position
is dependent upon successful attainment and maintenance of hospital
privileges, if applicable to the Business Unit practice. /n /n
Licensure, Education, Certifications, and Clearances /n Certified
Registered Nurse Practitioner (CRNP): /n /n - The successful
completion of an approved nurse practitioner program is required /n
- BSN, MSN is preferred /n - Professional nursing experience and/or
nurse practitioner experience is preferred /n - Current state RN
license and CRNP certification are required /n - National
certification, eligible for licensure by Pennsylvania board of
nursing, eligible for certification as a CRNP by Pennsylvania state
board of nursing /n - Current CPR certification is required /n -
Act 33 Clearance will be required /n - Act 73 Clearance will be
required /n - Act 34 Clearance required /n - ENP certification /n
/n Physician Assistant (PA): /n /n - A graduate of a physician
assistant program accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission
on Education for the physician assistant (ARC-PA) is required /n -
BS or MS candidate is preferred /n - Experience as a physician
assistant and/or experience in a clinical setting is preferred /n -
Current state PA license certified by the National Commission on
Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) is required /n -
Current CPR certification is required /n - Act 33 Clearance will be
required /n - Act 73 Clearance will be required /n - Act 34
