Director of Materials - Come spend our money!

Company: TruCut incorporated
Location: Sebring
Posted on: April 3, 2024

Job Description:

Description:Who we are.TruCut Incorporated is the leading supplier of out-of-production and low-volume service parts for the HVAC industry. We specialize in offering a complete solution for manufacturing, warehousing, and distribution on behalf of our OEM customers. With over 55 years of industry experience, we continue to evolve as a modern company to meet the ever-changing needs of our customers and to be a desirable place to work.Today, TruCut brings together over 100 unique and talented people every day to operate two manufacturing facilities located in Salem and Sebring, Ohio and one distribution center in Alliance, Ohio. We take considerable pride in operating as an ISO 9001:2015 certified business. We also empower our people with Open Book Management and aim to have a lot of fun playing The Great Game of Business.Right now, we are inviting qualified candidates that are looking to challenge themselves and lead TruCut's procurement department as the Director of Materials.Types of things you will be doing.Do but delegate. Differentiate between tasks that are necessary to complete yourself and when to rely on the talents and skills of those you work with. To go along with that you will need to make sure your department has all the proper seats filled with the right people. It is critical to develop your team and make sure they are constantly improving and reaching career goals just like you would develop and improve a relationship with a vendor. You will be overseeing a purchasing department of three people with five more material handlers. It cannot be emphasized enough that this is not a buyer position. This is a strategic management position that is responsible for over $20,000,000 annually in materials from the time a contract is negotiated to the time it reaches production and beyond. As the Director of Materials, you will oversee the building of strong relationships with our vendors. This includes visiting vendor's facilities to best understand their capabilities and, at times, audit their processes. Of course, you will be supported by TruCut's Quality and Engineering teams. You will also need to be able to negotiate contracts at a high level and follow prevailing economic indicators to make sensible decisions. You will be responsible for various KPI's and must make sure that inventory levels meet both production and cash flow goals. While we strive to keep most of our supply chain based within the US, there are times when we must procure materials from overseas. Understanding freight costs, lead-times, customs, and tariffs for international procurement is crucial.Working with cross-functional teams is also key for this position. Unfortunately, our crystal ball is unreliable, so you will need to work closely with our production planners and sales team to make sure we are responding effectively to the ebb and flow of customer demand. Although accountants can be dry and stuffy with bad jokes, you will also have to coordinate with them once a year to conduct a physical inventory. We strive to teach all employees to think like a business owner, so you will need to utilize technical analysis and business acumen to make well-informed decisions impacting daily duties.Types of things you will not be doing.Do not count on being a desk jockey all day. While many of your duties will be based in our ERP, Visual Manufacturing, you will need to learn, understand, and interact with our products, people, and processes. Beating up suppliers or being belligerent is not how we conduct business. Our suppliers are as important to us as we are to them, and we place a high value on a positive relationship. Unless it is your birthday, you should not be surprised on a regular basis. This position requires the person to be very proactive in their duties by developing solutions to potential issues before they occur. We encourage everyone to show initiative and act. If a mistake is made, fix it. Finally, do not let raw material inventory get old and obsolete. This position has the ability to control a company's cash flow more than almost any other position in a company. Many profitable companies have gone out of business by having lots of inventory purchased for a great deal with no cash left in the bank. Let's not let that happen. How we define success in this role. You should take pride in getting the job done. It is easily noticed when someone has a modus operandi of action with results. This applies not only to tasks at hand but also to your team. You will be successful if you set your team up for success and empower them with the tools, they need to achieve exceptional outcomes.Attitude is everything. Nothing will cause you to fail in this role faster than a poor attitude. As a manager you must act with empathy, integrity, and accountability. What we would like from you. This is not for beginners (we have other positions for those!). We would prefer that you have a bachelor's degree in a business or engineering discipline with 7+ years in a materials/operations role. An additional 5 years of management experience would be beneficial. No degree? Professional certifications like a CPIM or CSCP combined with real world experience works fine, too. We will consider any leadership positions you may have held or currently held outside of your day job in lieu of the 5 years in management. If you really want to impress us and jump to the front of the line, then the bulk of your experience should be in manufacturing. If your experience is not in manufacturing, then feel free to submit a brief essay explaining why you want to work in manufacturing and how your experience is transferable. Also, be prepared to explain the theory or doctrine that you subscribe to, and why, when it comes to procurement and supply chain. It will need to be a bit deeper than price shopping. What you will get in return. If you are the person that ends up filling this position, then we will compensate you with a salary of $80,000 - $120,000 (we will see how good your negotiating skills are if you think you can command more). We also provide a full suite of medical, dental, and vision insurance. Several supplemental policies are available as well. You can participate in our 401k with a 4% match. We also offer a gainsharing program where you can earn up to a 15% bonus if the company achieves its annual financial goals. You will automatically get a $25,000 company-funded life insurance policy as well. We pay for you to stay home on eight holidays (9 if you are a veteran) and have paid time off as well. Should you decide you want to continue your education and it is in a discipline that would benefit the company then we also have a tuition reimbursement program. In addition to all of that we also offer a very safe, clean, and stable work environment. We are growing and you will have the opportunity to grow with us. We are not a public company and ownership is involved with the day-to-day operations so bureaucracy is thin, and you will be recognized for your achievements.Who are your coworkers? We are down-to-earth people. We work hard to the best of our abilities and try to learn new things when that is not enough. You count on your peers as much as they count on you to make sure a job gets done. We do not hide from a challenge or dodge responsibilities. Those that do, do not last long. We make mistakes just like you will and when we recognize them, we own it, fix it, and move on. Pontificators, blowhards, and showboats do not do well in this organization. When not at work most of our coworkers have families and enjoy a diverse spectrum of hobbies. You will find musicians, hunters, travelers, avid DIYers, coaches, civil servants, gamers, artists, home brewers, board game sharks, dancers, and more.Does this sound like it could be a fit for you? If so, we would welcome your resume along with anything else that you think would be beneficial for the hiring manager to know.Job Type: Full-timeSalary: $80,000.00 - $120,000.00 per yearBenefits:
