This position is eligible for a hybrid schedule and possibly
relocation
The Process Planning Lead or Engineer is accountable for creating
and advancing the manufacturing process plan by which all
TimkenSteel customer orders are produced. The fundamental elements
of the process plan are the process path, process costs, testing
and inspection, in-process product characteristics, finished
product quality, and process yield. The dimensional analysis of
tubing and bar products and knowledge of the associated
manufacturing processes are a component of this position.
Responsibilities:
Within Supply Chain Engineering, queue maintenance, Order/Item
advancement, and compliance are key responsibilities.
- Create the manufacturing process plan for bar and/or tube steel
orders and advance the methodology through cross-functional
analysis
- Determine the required manufacturing operations and the
sequence of those operations
- Identify order specific sampling and testing requirements, and
determine the timing and type of sample required
- Provide operation specific shop floor instructions
- Identify capability/cost/quality issues in the assignment of
work centers
- Modify the optimal process plan for specific orders to
accommodate efficient planning/scheduling execution of the plan
- Direct planning/scheduling functions in changing process paths
and work centers to balance loads
- Monitor and guide Demand Planning and Fulfillment analysts in
choosing viable alternatives to the original process plan;
anticipate and create alternate process plans in advance for their
use on an order specific basis
- Educate and instruct Demand Planning and Fulfillment analysts
on capability/cost/quality parameters of process plans
- Facilitate communication between planning and manufacturing
functions to resolve planning conflicts
- Identify which orders must be outsourced and those that cannot
be outsourced, based on manufacturing capability and Customer
Process Agreements
- Use and evaluate sophisticated information systems and software
- Identify design enhancements to systems and software
- Develop and maintain expertise in the use of process planning
systems
- Develop and maintain working knowledge of planning/scheduling
systems
- Monitor order processing procedures that pertain to yield
- Screen order information for completeness and correctness
- Evaluate order entry and order processing procedures and
analyze the specific detail of information hand-offs
- Monitor Demand Planning and Fulfillment planning practices that
pertain to yield, including piercing mill billet inventory programs
- Define process path input for Demand Planning
- Provide order specific process paths to demand planning for the
assignment of shipment dates and load analysis
- Determine average queue processing time for specific orders to
override the Planner software when manual date assignment is
needed
- Analyze work center constraints of specific process paths for
the effect on processing time and on-time delivery
- Coordinate process path modifications to reduce processing time
to expedite orders with urgent (line down) delivery
- Perform dimensional analysis of tubing products
- Establish tubing manufacturing capability for specific customer
items in relation to the process path
- Review customer tubing inquiries submitted by Sales for ability
to produce
- Monitor and enhance the tubing dimensional rules in the Inquiry
System
- Maintain methodology for calculating guaranteed tube size in
relation to customer finish machine size
- Consult with Manufacturing on specific item capability
(piercing, rough turning)
- Determine tubing setup for orders (piercing mill selection,
piercing mill billet size and weight, hot rolled tube size and
length, cold finished intermediate sizes and lengths) needed to
meet the ordered size and length
- Perform dimensional analysis of bar products
- Establish bar manufacturing capability for specific customer
items in relation to the process path
- Review customer bar inquiries submitted by Sales for ability to
produce
- Monitor and enhance the bar dimensional rules in the Inquiry
System
- Consult with Manufacturing on specific item capability
(rolling, rough turning) Technical Skills:
- Proficiency with use of advanced business, plant and
departmental systems and tools.
- Position requires proactive, self initiating and self managing
individual with responsibility for first time quality without the
benefit of downstream verification. Minimum Requirements:
- Associate's Degree in Business, Math, Supply Chain or
Engineering (preferred) or related with 6 years of experience in
data analysis (e.g., MS Access, JMP, and/or Excel) OR Bachelor's
Degree in Business, Math, Supply Chain, Engineering (preferred) or
related with at least 4 years of experience in in data analysis
(e.g., MS Access, JMP, and/or Excel)
- Proficient in Microsot Excel
- Ability to find, organize and analyze critical data
- Ability to present and implement solutions
- Ability to self-manage Preferred:
- Masters Degree in Business, Supply Chain, Engineering
(preferred) or related with at least 5 years of experience in data
analysis (e.g., MS Access, JMP, and/or Excel)
