Prior natural gas industry environmental experience or related
consulting experience, a plus.
Bachelor's degree in engineering, geology, or environmental
sciences preferred. Current certification as a registered
Professional Engineer (P.E.) is a plus, but not a requirement for
this position
Environmental Compliance Specialist/Engineer
Position Description: Seeking staff level (or Sr. Staff level)
Environmental Compliance Specialist or Environmental Engineer to
support natural gas pipeline operations in NY, PA, OH, WV and
eastern KY with potential to work on other Kinder Morgan assets or
projects in the northeast region, including a section of pipeline
in Canada. Office location will be at a Kinder Morgan Operations
facility within the support area.Ideal candidate will have MINIMUM
5 years related experience, including experience in waste
management, remediation, sample collection, and analytical data
interpretation, SPCC plans, Tier II reporting, NORM management,
emergency response and incident reporting. The ideal candidate will
have approximately 5 - 10 years related Oil and Gas experience.Must
be able to work independently without direct supervision and
possess excellent written and verbal communication skills.Job
duties include, but may not be limited to:1. Ensure SPCC Plans are
prepared in accordance with 40 CFR Part 112 for applicable
facilities and conduct annual SPCC training for field operations.2.
Preparation, review and approval of Waste Management Plans for
construction projects in the assigned business areas.3.
Periodically conduct and document third party waste disposal
company audits to determine acceptable use by the Company.4. Make
necessary spill and release notifications to appropriate state and
federal agencies. Position requires night, weekend and holiday "on
call" for emergency response and release reporting.5. Provide
technical assistance with cleanup and sampling requirements to
ensure compliance with applicable regulations.6. Ensure spill and
release reports are properly documented in the company incident
database.7. Prepare and submit operations related water permit
applications.8. Oversee compliance activities associated with
authorized discharge permits, including submitting of discharge
monitoring reports, pollution prevention plans, and notice of
terminations, as appropriate.9. Provide environmental due diligence
support on acquisition and divestiture activities. Review site
investigation data reports, research compliance information on
State and Federal websites, assist in the preparation of contract
language, and oversee implementation of Phase I and Phase II field
investigations.10. Identify possible risks/liabilities and
associated costs for consideration by the Acquisition or
Divestiture Team.11. Coordinate and participate in periodic
EH&S assessments, inspections, and audits. In addition,
participate in incident investigations and support the preparation
of relevant documentation.
12. Represent the Company in industry trade associations and with
regulatory agencies to promote the company's position on EHS
issues, when and if requested.13. Offer innovative solutions to
solve difficult issues in a team environment.14. Interpret EHS
regulations and advise management of mandated requirements when
assigned to specific teams.15. Manage spill clean-up and some
remediation projects, as necessary.16. Coordinate DOT Hazardous
Materials transportation issues within area of responsibility.17.
Successfully manage "special projects" as a Subject Matter Expert,
when required.18. Successful candidate will serve as Company
representative with regional State and some Federal agencies.
19. Support Operations in the management of non-hazardous waste,
RCRA hazardous waste, TENORM waste, Mixed Waste, and Universal
Waste. Prepare waste determination emails, RCRA SQG Emergency
Preparedness plans, and RCRA LQG Contingency Plans; communicate
plans to emergency responders. Provide Operations with
event-specific training when elevated waste generator status
occurs.
20. Working knowledge of State and Federal waste and release
reporting regulations.
21. Knowledge of natural gas storage field operations will be a
plus.Facilities within the successful candidate's area will
include: natural gas transmission pipelines and compressor stations
including gas processing plants, natural gas storage, and treating
facilities, as well as natural gas liquids pipelines, and could
include other regional KM assets based on company needs and
business unit growth opportunities.Position includes a company
vehicle.
Travel required is estimated to be -25% to 40% on an on-going
basis. Some overnight travel required.
Position involves a great deal of autonomy and discretion in
scheduling site visits and business travel.Pre-employment
background check, and drug screening, will apply. Successful
candidate must have valid driver's license and pass DMV records
check.
Position requires the ability to climb stairs, traverse rugged
terrain on foot, carry up to 50 pounds and occasional travel by
air.
